Pinoy indie film: Tribu

SYNOPSIS: The dangerous unlit streets and labyrinthine alleyways in the ghetto district of Tondo in Manila, serves as a claustrophobic backdrop to a random killing that triggers a wild and bloody gang war.

Through the eyes of a 10 year old boy, we are immersed into the normal, impoverished, tough life of Tondo. Through him, we encounter the juvenile yet murderous leaders and members of various gangsta tribes -- adolescent thugs and petty criminals whose past time is sex, drugs and their eloquently poetic street rap, delivered in their own unique tongue-twisting machine gun-style.

This movie will premiere during the Cinemalaya digital film competition at the Cultural Centre of The Philippines on July 22, 2007.

The Community Project

The Community is an event which will be held every year showcasing the Philippines abundance in talent and determination to break down barriers of how limited people think of what hiphop really is. Nathan J , formerly of 7Shots of Wisdom, got in touch with Turbulence Productions to execute his ideas of how to generate positivitism amongst his peers both old and new. The Community will spawn 2 products by the end of 2006, a CD and a DVD. The DVD will feature a documentary, documenting not only the show itself but whatever went on in Philippines hiphop scene within the months of April and May. The DVD includes Mastaplann's last visit and performance in Manila with Francism, Dongalo Wreckordz album launching of KATREND2DUHAN, Turbulence Productions artists Psylent and Nimbusnine performing alongside Loon and Jin The MC in Taiwan, interviews and more.

The Community this year was a 7 week stint in Club Halo, Makati City. Every week showcased performers with different angles of their brand of hiphop. Performers throughout the entire 7 week included Pamilya Dimagiba, Dj Arbie Won, Miscellaneous, Audible, Nimbusnine, Mike Swift, Johnny Krush, Mobbstarr, A.M.P.O.N, Madd Poets, Chinese Mafia, 2tay, Marquiss, Los Indios Bravoz, SVC, Dash and more. After which, the organizers played music videos (Mobbstarr's "6 N The Mornin', PKSO's "Solid", Konigs "Nganong Ni Enter" and more) that were rarely given airplay and help celebrate multi media success of our peers and artists.

The first two weeks saw the development of the CD. We raffled out beats by 18 different producers to 18 different acts which songs will be performed at the last day of the event. Amidst the props for event, tragedy struck and one of the b-boys had an accident that required him to undergo surgery. With the strength of the people behind the organizers, they instigated an auction of a tarpaulin signed by everyone supporting the movement including signatures from Francis M and Andrew E and a autographed Francis M jersey. Eventually Steak Productions bought out the competition that which served to help the b-boy in need.

Now, with months gone by, The Community still serves its purpose as a sparkplug and a place to network amongst visionaries or the scene. Placing ourselves on myspace allows up to bridge gaps and gives the world a piece of how we are overcoming conflicts within our scene and make a move into the world scene.

The latest Community event will take place at The Basement at Eastwood City, Libis, Quezon City. The show will take place every Wednesday from May 9 to May 30 starting 10pm. For more into, e-mail thecommunitywebuilding@gmail.com
